Everything your venue and AV crew need for Richard Barker's comedy hypnosis show: sound, stage, lighting, props, green room and arrival.
THIS RIDER IS OUR BEST CASE SCENARIO
We always ask for the ultimate setup, because that is what gives your audience the best possible show. If your venue cannot match every point, that is fine. No stage? Richard performs on the floor. A smaller stage or a simpler sound system? We work with what you have and make it a great night. Just tell us what your venue has and we will plan around it.
A PA system built for entertainment, standalone speakers on stands, a stage monitor and a sound tech.
16 ft deep by 38 ft wide is ideal. Stairs at the front for anything raised over 18 inches.
20 sturdy hardback chairs with no armrests and no wheels, set in a row facing the audience.
As much light as possible on the whole performance area. The audience can be dimmed.
A private, quiet, non smoking room with a toilet, sink, water and air conditioning.
A named person to meet Richard on arrival, with their cell number sent in advance.
Standalone speakers on stands or mounts, on or right beside the performance area. A hypnosis show is spoken from start to finish with music underneath, so every word has to reach every seat.
Roughly one watt per seat in the room, sized to the room's capacity rather than the ticket count, especially in carpeted rooms. 300 seats needs about 300 watts.
8 inch woofers carry the spoken voice best. Much bigger speakers sound boomy for speech, and small speakers lack punch when the music lifts.
A monitor at the front of the stage, on its own amp so its volume is set separately from the main speakers. Volunteers on stage must hear Richard clearly.
A direct input box with two quarter inch inputs on the performance area, feeding the house board.
Your sound tech stays for the whole show. Richard runs a sound check with your AV crew before the doors open.
Gym, bowling alley, event center and meeting room speakers are built for announcements and background music. They echo in a half full room and cannot handle a show. Please bring in a PA.
Theater rigs set up for plays often have heavy limiters and no stage monitor. Please add a monitor and ease off the limiting.
They often work, as long as the speakers are about 30 feet apart and in front of the performance area, and the DJ is not set up on the stage the volunteers need. Please put Richard in touch with the DJ before the event.
Room for 20 chairs in a row, with space for Richard to walk safely behind and around them without leaving the stage.
A smaller platform works. Up to 18 inches high needs no stairs. If it is smaller than 12 ft deep by 24 ft wide, keep it at 18 inches or lower, because the floor around it becomes part of the show.
Raise the stage 3 to 4 ft so everyone can see. Anything over 2 ft high must be at least 16 ft deep by 38 ft wide.
Needed on any raised stage. Center front is best, side front is fine, and more than one set is better for volunteers coming up.
As much light as possible across the whole performance area. The audience can be dimmed.
Sturdy hardback chairs, no armrests, no wheels, facing the audience.
At the rear of the stage, for props and a laptop.
The show may be recorded. If so, the crew needs space in front of the performance area, power, and a 5 ft table.
Show videos and other merchandise may be offered to the audience after the show, with your consent.
A private, non smoking room or trailer the audience cannot reach before the show, with a private toilet and sink, water, refreshments, and heating or air conditioning.
If the green room is away from the stage, transport to and from it right before and after the show.
Someone to meet Richard on site before the first show. Please send their name and cell number in advance.
Parking on site, or transport to and from the venue, plus any passes or permits ready before the first show.
Show times are confirmed at least 30 days before the event, and should be advertised and displayed at the venue.
